Man Sentenced For Fatal Drunk Driving Crash In Burlington

A 2011 Dixie Highway crash shows how one horrible decision can have tragic consequences. In that accident, a 22-year-old man was out on the town when he met two women at the bar. The women agreed to go for a ride in his Chevy Malibu, but wouldn't live to regret it.

The young man revved his car to reach at least 86 mph, then lost of control and crashed into a telephone pole. He had marijuana in his system and a blood alcohol level of 0.234; in Ohio, the legal limit is 0.08.

The driver, a Williamstown resident, was recently sentenced to 16 years in prison. The man appears truly remorseful for the lives he took and the unimaginable pain he's caused. But - as he now knows - Ohio drivers need to be mindful of the dangers of drunk driving before taking the wheel while intoxicated, not after.

When a drunk driver causes serious harm or death, the victims or surviving family members may bring a lawsuit against the wrongdoers. The civil courts work independent of the criminal courts. While criminal courts impose fines and sentences, civil courts allow the plaintiffs to recover money damages for the harm caused.

If you are considering bringing a drunk driving lawsuit or wrongful death claim, contact an experienced Cincinnati auto accident attorney to discuss your legal options.
