Woman involved in drunk driving accident tries to escape police

Last Thursday, Lockland, Ohio, police say that a woman had her 3-year-old boy in a vehicle with her when she had an accident and fled from officers in a booze-fueled attempt to avoid arrest. According to a Lockland city official, the incident began shortly after 5:30 p.m. when the 30-year-old woman headed north on I-75, speeding from the scene of an accident. Two Lockland police officers then spotted her vehicle and gave chase to the woman who was ironically attempting to get away in gray Ford Escape. Officers say that they pursued the woman for perhaps a mile before she encountered heavy traffic and eventually gave up. One officer speculated that a couple of tractor-trailer operators noticed the woman’s erratic driving and boxed her in, allowing police to apprehend her.

Police say that they noticed signs the woman was intoxicated and found her boy visibly shaken by the ordeal. They found an open container of alcohol inside the Ford Escape and administered a breathalyzer test on the woman, which showed her to have a blood alcohol content of .258. The woman was placed under arrest and later charged with two charges of drunken driving, child endangerment, fleeing and eluding, having an open container in a motor vehicle and failure to maintain control.

After further investigation it was determined that the woman struck a vehicle in Cincinnati and then hit a wall in Lockland before embarking on her wild ride to evade police. Authorities also learned that the defendant has a prior 2007 conviction for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. She has since been arraigned and given a bond of $45,080.

Ohio motorists have a right to be safe on the roadways. If it is proven that this woman was drunk driving, she should be held responsible for her actions. The Cincinnati victim whom this defendant allegedly struck with her vehicle might be able to pursue legal actions to recover monetary damages if it can be determined that the woman was impaired at the time of the accident. If you have been in an accident with someone impaired while driving, you should consult a legal professional to see if their negligence entitles you to sue for compensation.
